Kitabu App Reviews

Doesnt work for many books, only opens books after move or copy

The app is nice and simple, looks decent. The app unfortunately wont open many epubs, even perfect ones with no DRM that work fine in iBooks etc. Also unfortunate is that it wont just simply open a file in its current location - it gives you the option of either copying or moving files to its own library. Id prefer a third option, NONE, meaning just open the file where it is, so I could for instance have it open books in the iTunes folder without winding up with two copies of each one I want to read.

Almost there!

This app is very good at what it does, and its retina optimized! Its missing some shortcut support but Im sure it will get there eventually. I wish I could change the text more (color, background, spacing, etc.). If youre looking for a nice free ePub reader, dont hesitate to get this app.

Need better support for mountain lion

The quicklook plugin does not work in ML, and more options would be good.

Lack of search functionality

No text search? Seriously? Also, it doesnt remember the place youve been reading before. It fails after you use Mac OS native Look-Up function etc. Deleted.

A LIttle Buggy But Works As Says

I like it. The only issue Ive discovered is that the app crashes if you are reading in full screen and want to switch to Library view. Hopefully this will be addressed in the next release.

Basic features only but very quick

This is a very basic reader: No bookmarking, no annotations; and the physical page numbers of the book are not displayed (that is, when the epub includes page numbers info). Yet it is fast and has great "pure reading" features: column choices and black or sepia background options are nice, as is the native OS look. It will be a perfect app if the missing features are added.

Completly Broken in Mountain Lion

I loved this App. But now, nothing works on Moutain Lion. And there has been no response from the support people. This app has other minor hurdles to make it great, but that doesnt really matter if it doesnt work at all.

Free ereader

Among paid eReader apps, Book Reader is the best of the bunch - looks and performs well, despite some buggy edges. But if youre looking for free eReader apps, Kindle will display .mobi files beautifully, and Calibre has been stable and usable for years. Kitabu is a relative newcomer, and loading books is as easy as dropping the files onto the Kitabu screen; the artwork shows up clearly and quickly. When it comes to displaying the books themeselves, you may have a few challenges getting the dimensions correct. Nontheless, this is a promising future, and might some day move to the front of the pack.

Not very good.

I generally do not give out 1 star ratings, and because its free I did not here. This app did not do very good at all. I used to it read epubs for school work. The navigation is bad. It jumps around. The scaling is off and words are superimposed in front of pictures. It still needs a lot of work.

Needs Improvement

Great concept, now it needs to be a little more dynamic. I need an option to at least change my library folder, and it should also be combined with many of Sixty Fours other applications. Also a lot of the times this app wont open any of my .EPUB books I bought…they have no copy protection so there shouldnt be a problem but this app cant render them!

No content, crashes, cant use on macbook air 2012

Pointless to waste time installing this if it doesnt work, there is no decent support and no help files. Spend the money and buy an app that works.

It

First off, this epub reader does what it is supposed to do. It just dosnt do them very well. My first impressions were that it felt very bland and sterile. The UI is kind of boring, but that is a personal preference. However, here are some things that I feel it really lacks. 1) It cant remember where you left off. A simple bookmark, or better yet, have the app open to the last page you were reading. Nope it cant do that. Everytime it opens, it brings up the library. And even after selecting the ebook agin, you have to scroll through to find the page you were reading. What a pain. 2) I have a problem where it cant even seem to remember the setting that I put into the program. Everytime I open the app, I am forced to resize the window and set what size font I want. So, yea it does what it is supposed to do, but there has obviously been no thought put into making this program very functional. All I can say is that Its a good thing it is free. P.S. I only have one ebook, so I can not attest to the other isues that have been spoken of, but I can see that they are probably completely legitimate.

It actulaly works now! But…

It seems like it finally has stopped crashing! Yay! Gets the job done. Nonetheless, its still a pretty bare-bones ebook reader. I suggest: 1 - Bookmarks, Highlighting, any other way to makr stuff on the book. 2 - Make the app remember where you left off. It will remember the chapter, but not the actual "page". When I reopen it it will just throw me back to the beggining of the chapter. 3 - Make my settings persistent: whenever I reopen it it is back in windowed mode (even though it was fullscreen when I closed it), and the font/styles/columns are also reset. It will get the job mostly done though, and wont crash any more. Keep the updates coming!

Buggy

Opening a epub works the first time but opening it from the built in library throws the "ERROR - ePub does not exists!" Im worried the code is as bad as the grammar in this error message!

not that good,

I was disappointed. Does not work.

Good Ereader !

The App is good for what is made to do ;But it still needs improvements like book marks so you dont have to start over again and it needs page numbers so you also now on what page your on and couple of other things !! Other than that its OK for now!!!

Opens book and doesn

I read only one book with 600 pages. I do not close app, so I do not feel any problems w/ bookmarks. It opens book and woks fine. What I do not like is UI. Command+C to copy does not work by shortcut, and I feel like it messes up pictures in my book.

Its OK as a basic ePub reader

However, saving the state between sessions would be a huge plus. I wish it would be more like Preview: every time I start Preview, its there where I left off.

Dont waste your time

Whatever you do dont waste your time with this app. Really. It doesnt know or remember anything but its name. It gets REALLY buggy too when you change the columns. I dont even want to waste any more time writing this review. Ive used it for a few months but I am moving on now...

Proverbial Crap!

Many reviewers have already hit the nail on the head. The app is lacking in many features such as the ability to see original file names and being ably to delete the Library entries (no the actual epub. Real stinker even for free!
