Kitabu App Reviews

Enfin un lecteur epub au norme mac os X

cette application gratuite fait le boulot : une visualisation de votre collection de fichiers epub en mode liste ou vignette et lecture en mode plein écran avec tables des matières. Ne semble pas être capable de lire les fichiers epub avec DRM this free app do its job : list ou thumb view of your library, full screen reading with table of contents. I am not enable to read DRM protected epub file with the app

Huge potential

Its one of the good epub readers out there. The rendering is pretty solid and overall UX is fine. But its lacking one major feature: Bookmarks! Please add them. Also, have an option to make the TOC appear by default. And it seems theres a bug when sometime a section is not displayed after clicking on it.

Rough around the edges but good for the price

The fullscreen reading mode is awful (who wants a wall of text across a 30" screen?), and usage is non-intuitive (trackpad gestures are not supported, only arrow keys), but the reading window itself is pleasant enough to read (unlike, say, Bookle, where the scrollbar overlaps the text). Kitabu is one of the better ePub readers on the Mac App Store, and at this price you cant go wrong.

Buggy

Has too many bugs, e.g. scrolling past cover page doesnt work many times, books removed from library reappear on next launch etc.

Is this beta?

Doesnt seem to properly support graphics in ePub books, or support bookmarks or annotations. Worst of all, its buggy when trying to flip pages.

Almost there…

The simplified non-sense interface is refreshing. Honestly, there are only two big "little" things that need to be addressed. 1. Bookmarks 2. Standard page numbering The percentage is OK, but its not nearly as user-friendly as real page numbers.

Great start

This is an excellent free app for what I need it for. I use it to review ePub files Ive made, and for reading eBooks which dont have DRM. The display is easy on the eyes, and the font/column adjustments are good. The table of contents feature has had no issues. There are no problems with justifications or photo locations changing. I have found that it is possible to copy text as long as the keyboard shortcut isnt used; youll have to highlight, right-click and select "copy". Photos cant be copied, though. Some features which I think would make this app better (and to warn you of what it doesnt do): - Ability to remove books - Read my purchases from the iBookstore (cant because of DRM; only public domain books like the Bible can be opened from what Ive tried) - Ability to highlight passages of text - Bookmarks and notes I would recommend this if you simply want to read. I gave it five stars because I like it for what it does; of course improvements can be made, but its good, for being a free app.

Great basic application

The application itself is great - fast, minimal, retina supported (text and icons look good). However, it is missing a few critical features - namely bookmarks - that other readers have.

Dont work with Mountain Lion

Worked great on Snow Leopard but I am having all kinds of trouble with it on Mountain Lion. Update soon please!!! I need a epub reader.

Exactly what you need

Very smooth, stable app. Developers have done a good job keeping it clean and focused; there are no excessive features or bloat. Exactly what I was looking for to read an ePub. Perhaps for some people more features would be desirable (previous reviews have mentioned bookmarks), but for effectively a paper book replacement, this is perfect. Even prefer it to Barnes & Noble NOOK app for Mac.

Wont open any book Ive paid for..

It would be great to be able to leave a review about the usability of this App but it wont open any of the books Ive paid for (ePub). Disappointing.

Fantastic

Fantastic app, works prefectly, nice and free :)

Perfect

Exactly what i was looking for and the best thing is that its free ! Thank you

Essential for Mac

This app is simple, clean, and easy to use. Its the missing ePub reader everyone needs!

Good

The App does what it says. I had the version available prior to mountain lion release, when I upgraded it stopped working. However since the update everything works again, can read my books on my mac again yay!

Simple But Buggy

Works fine on iMac with Mountain Lion OS for ePub books fresh off the creator. Once using iTune to organize the ePub books, and try to open with Kitabu again, some bookmarks in the ePub books will not be working properly. Please fix! Thanks

Not a Simple Reader

Kitabu is free. Thats the good part. The bad part is that its not a simple reader. lt copies (or moves) every title to its own library, without even telling you where it is. (Look for it in <~/Library/Containers/ee.64.Kitabu/Data/Documents/ePubLibrary> -- bad location, btw). Im not looking for an ePub library manager; Im looking for a basic ePub reader. Looks like this one aint it.

Table of contents broken

It seems like a nice EPUB reader for MAC. I just wish those limited features to work. TOC links are broken in the current version.

PSA: Just use iBooks on Mavericks

If you have Mavericks, you don’t need this app. If you don’t have Mavericks, get Mavericks. There are ~0 reasons not to.

Doesn’t work

Doesn’t open my epub, says it’s corrupted. Marvin on iOS opens it just fine.
